It’s a story we hear again and again here at Aircall: a startup puts together a sales force (generally not a big team, it starts with one / two sales) and instead of investing in a proper business phone solution they first use a combination of office and personal mobile phones to receive / make calls.
Things usually start to get complicated when the first salesperson leaves the company.
If she leaves on good terms then it’s fine, but if it’s not the case you can have some serious problems:
continuation of service. Very often, salespeople create strong relationships with the customers they acquire and very often these customers consider them as the first point of contact to your company. If the salesperson was using his personal phone number then you are completely out of the loop.
contact information. Another problem is when all the contacts information are in the salesperson smartphone. If you don’t have a real tool to collect and synchronize phone contacts then say goodbye to your data.
A business phone solution is like a file backup solution: you know it’s better and safer to backup your files regularly and yet you don’t always do it. It’s always when your computer crashes and when you lose your data that you regret not having done a backup.
Do yourself a favor and invest in a real business phone solution
This is why even if a proper business phone solution might cost you a bit of extra money the investment is often worth it as you’ll get much more control with these basic features:
phone number redirection: create a single phone number for each sales rep and redirect it to their personal and office phones. That way your customers will be able to reach them on any device with a single number which you control.
shared contacts: with a real business phone solution you can synchronize and share all contacts’ data automatically. Shared phone books are a must have for any company.
We also know why startups generally don’t get such a tool. They’ll explain to us that there are costly, complicated to setup and not easy to use. Which is true most of the time.
This is why we put “user experience” at the heart of our product. We are focused on creating a great user experience so you can setup and use your business phone solution as easily as you set up and use Dropbox to backup your files.
If you are a startup with a small sales team without a business phone system, please let us convince you and get your virtual phone system set up!
