Seattle & Paris – May 27, 2026: Aircall, the AI-powered customer communications platform, today announced the global launch of AI Messaging Agents, a new offering that handles inbound SMS and WhatsApp conversations autonomously on business phone numbers. This means Aircall now provides 24/7 AI handling of calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages on a single business number.

"AI Messaging Agents extend the same autonomous handling we built for voice into SMS and WhatsApp, on the customer's existing Aircall numbers," said Tom Chen, Chief Product Officer at Aircall. "AI Voice, SMS, and WhatsApp now run through one platform, one knowledge base, and one workspace. Teams pick up conversations with full context, regardless of which channel the customer used."

What AI Messaging Agents do

When an inbound message arrives, an AI Messaging Agent reads it, understands it with the company's connected knowledge sources, then replies in natural language. Two channels are supported at launch: SMS and WhatsApp. 

AI Messaging Agents can also execute AI Actions during conversations. Examples include looking up orders in Shopify, creating deals in HubSpot, and making tickets in Zendesk. AI Actions are included at no extra charge.

When a conversation requires a human, the AI agent hands off to the relevant team in Aircall Workspace. The message history is surfaced during the handoff, and the conversation continues on the same business phone number for a cohesive customer experience.

Warms leads for sales

AI Messaging Agents respond to inbound leads in seconds, day or night. The agent asks qualifying questions, captures key details, and can book a meeting autonomously. By the time a rep gets involved, the lead is qualified and the context is in Aircall Workspace, reducing the likelihood of leads going stale outside of business hours.

Resolves for support

AI Messaging Agents resolve routine inbound requests—order tracking, status updates, and common how-to questions. When a handoff is needed, the AI message history is surfaced to the team continuing the conversation, so customers never repeat themselves and support teams gain time back to provide better service.

AI Messaging Agents run on a customer's existing Aircall business numbers—no SIP trunking, number forwarding, or new phone number purchasing required. Because AI Voice Agents and AI Messaging Agents share the same number and workspace, teams and AI work alongside each other rather than being spread across separate tools.
